Teyana Taylor “K.T.S.E.” Album Review

Teyana FINALLY released her album and I’ve been slowly but surely getting into. For one, since it was released under the Kanye and he produced by him, I knew it would be a catch 🙄

First off, it didn’t follow the 7 song guidelines that Kanye was so stern on producing. There was 8 songs on the album which is still short, especially since the total album is only 23 minutes long.

Disclaimer: I don’t care for the short album trend. I miss the 12 track or more albums.

Teyana starts off the album with “Manners” which is just a repetitive song but mainly a minute and a half intro to start the album off.

The second song “ Gonna Love Me” is my FAVORITE song, which is about not taking certain things for granted. It gives me soulful Common vibes.

Hold on, HOLD ONNNN, DON’T LET ME GO. The third song “Issues/Hold On”, is my second favorite track on the album. She talks about working out a relationship and not giving us so easily. This could be a correlation to her marriage with Iman Shumpert.

“Hurry” is a freaky song, just talking about making a move and…fucking pretty much lol.

“Keep your eyes all on this fatty
If you like what you see take your hands and grab it

Yup, that’s self explanatory lol.

“3 Way”, the fifth track on the album is about having a threesome, another self explanatory song and she even got Ty Dolla $ign on the album, which is always a plus.

“Rose In Harlem” is another one of my favorites. It has a sample from the 70’s group The Stylistics in the chorus and she talks about people who are close to you, that be faking and don’t get caught up with them. Since you aren’t sure who’s real or fake, you just gotta watch your back. Also, she references Tupac’s poem “The Rose That Grew From Concrete” with the Stylistics sample– “A Rose In Harlem (sample), Grew out the concrete (Tupac Reference). The song has a hip hop vibe to it.

“Never Would Have Made It” is a reference to Marvin Sapp’s gospel song “Never Would Have Made It.” In this song, she indirectly talks about her daughter.

Lastly, “WTP” which stands for “Work This Pussy” is another naughty song lol but also can be taken as a workout song.

Teyana has a variety of songs in this album from traditional R & B, to soulful R & B, to freaky dicky songs, to gospel influenced songs. I liked the album, but it could’ve been a tad bit longer as far as the length of the songs and the tracks on the album. I can jam to the whole album buuuuut it could’ve been a little better.  Her first album was VII which had her single “Maybe” did pretty decent and was slightly longer than this album.

I like that Teyana is a woman with many talents such as singing, acting, model, businesswoman; plus she’s a  wife, and a mom. You can’t do nothing BUT respect her.

What are your thoughts about the album? Yay or Nay??
