[DELUX Mag] I’m Dope Because…

Everyone is dope in their own way, whether it’s their accomplishments or their family that makes them dope.

Check out my Delux Story below on being a dope person.

What makes you dope as an individual? By dope, I mean the Urban Dictionary 5thdefinition, which is “adjective: cool, nice, awesome.” If a random person walked up to you on the street and asked you, “what makes you dope?” In translation, what makes you an awesome person? A cool person?

Are you dope because you have your own car and house? Or maybe, you’re dope because you are a mom and can juggle that plus being a student, and business woman?

Perhaps, it’s nothing of a materialistic nature versus an accomplishment and goal you set for yourself. Could you be dope because you beat the odds of becoming a statistic; such as graduating high school and college—dodging teen pregnancy—and even overcoming the negative image of a black person making it out of the hood?

Or are you dope because you’re the first in your family to get a college degree which paves the way for others younger than you in your family—and you vowed never to settle for less?

Your dopeness could be .. click here to read more.

[DELUX Mag] Tashara Earl and David Morgan brings Battle of the Sexes to STL

Check out the my story below on an event I attended called Battle of the Sexes. It’s a game show that originated in Atlanta by David Morgan and Tashara Earl and they decided to bring the show here. Check out the story below:

Friday night, the game show—Battle of the Sexes made its way to Lowe’s Café to give St. Louis a live preview of the show that originated in Atlanta.  The show was created by Tashara Earl of Fusion Entertainment Management (FEM), along with Chemistry 360.

Originally from St. Louis, Earl decided to bring the show to St. Louis after she received a huge amount of engagement from her social media followers. Along with Earl, host David Morgan of Luhv2Live also appeared to ensure fans would get a true taste of the show.

The concept of the game is to go head to head with the opposite sex on a controversial relationship topics and issues. Since everyone loves a good card game and turn up, before the actual game show started, guests played some Uno, Taboo, and other games, before continuing the night with drinks and a little misbehaving.

Once the show began, it was broken down into rounds. The first round was an agree or disagree game that spark real life questions and scenarios. Various scenarios surrounding marriage, child support and rearing, along with many other relationship topics captivated the audience as excitement and competitiveness filled the room.

It was nice hearing each sides point of view. In some of those questions, each sex agreed or disagree on the same question but ever had their different reason.

Another game that was placed was called “Bullshit or Believable.” The purpose of this games was for game contestants to shout out a statement—that would either be believable or not. For instance, “Black women who are in a relationship with a white man are less likely to get cheated on.”

[DELUX MAG] Power Couple Empowering the Community

Check out my interview on DELUXMag.com about St. Louis’s Power couple empowering the community and many more!

power

It’s one thing to be a couple making business moves together, but it’s another thing to be a couple and giving back to the community. Onnie Bella and LaRonn (The Tycoon) are legit goals, yet they are modest when they hear the compliment. From throwing parties for “young professionals” to living out their passion and goals of giving back to the community.

DELUX was granted the opportunity to interview this busy couple and get to know them better.

DELUXHey you two. Thanks for talking with me and congratulations on your engagement.

Onnie & LaRonn: Thank you so much! We are literally still trying to make time to soak it up. It’s still fresh and new, but we’re super busy and find new projects or community events to start planning almost weekly [laughs].

DELUX: So, let’s get started. How did you all meet?

O&L: So, it’s crazy because I ended up at a party he was throwing, I came with my friends, kicked it, and left. About a month later I get a message from him thanking me for coming out to the event and asking for my feedback on the event. I gave my feedback, which I think was super helpful and constructive [laughs], and from there he asked if I would ever come back, and I think I said something like “If you invite me and I’m free, I’ll come.” I literally meant like free as in have nothing to do, and he thought I meant like didn’t have to pay [laughs], and instantly sent his number like “I can make that happen.” A week later we were texting and the rest is history.

DELUXDo you all have power couple inspirations? Like Beyoncé and Jay-Z of course do music together and Jada & Will own a production company together.

O&L: We don’t have a power couple inspiration. We aren’t all that into idolizing stars or other people at all for that matter. If you focus on what you have without trying to compare it or make it like someone else’s journey, your free to make mistakes, learn from them, and not feel pressured to fit into a box of “how it’s supposed to be.” We’ve made our relationship our own and it just so happens we are a power couple. We do get a lot of “#goals” comments and things of that nature.

Of course, we appreciate it and we’re flattered and that’s a dope hashtag for someone to associate with us, but our hope is honestly that associating us with “#goals” means more than just that. We hope we can remind folks that love still exists, building something concrete still exists, and that it doesn’t have to look like a cookie cutter version of what you see on tv.

power

DELUXWhat made you so comfortable with starting a business together? Some couples wait until they’re married sometimes.

O&L: I think the fact we both had done events in some type of capacity made us feel confident about hosting events together. We also have a great balance as business partners. We both bring different things to the table when it comes to our strengths and weaknesses and we complement each other, so it makes for a great team. We didn’t even hesitate over the fact we weren’t married when we thought of going into this together. We both believed in the brand and each other, so we ran with it.

DELUXThat’s so inspiring!! You two make a great team. How did you come up with the name SAUCE for your brand?

I’M A WRITER FOR DELUX MAG!

So about two weeks ago, I was granted the opportunity to become a writer/blogger for a local magazine in St. Louis (my hometown).

It was completely random. The owner reached out to me on my Danii Gold facebook page and then the editor in chief reached out to me on Instagram. With this platform I will be about to showcase my content on a larger scale.

Check out the website below and be on the lookout for my first story. I’ll be posting on here.

I Got My Masters! What Did I Learn?

A week ago (May 4), I obtained my Masters in Communications emphasizing in Public Relations and Promotions from Lindenwood. To some, it’s a big accomplishment; to me, it’s just another degree. That sounds nonchalant but it’s the truth. All I’ve ever know is school, so it’s kind of second nature. Trust me, I’m not a straight A person AT ALL, I honestly do just know but as a grad student, I had to maintain a 3.0, pretty much B’s or more in all my classes. Doesn’t seem too bad but I was use to get them C’s and that wasnt gon cut it in grad school.

What I learned is…..I reallllllly didn’t NEED to go back. Yeah you heard me right. My desired career is to be an established journalist & blogger, eventually On-Air talent or Television Host, or even a entertainment social media specialist OR an entertainment publicist. With all that, I would’ve been good with my regular smegular Journalism degree. The way technology and social media is set up, I could’ve just watched a few Youtube videos and followed the Instagram wave of what entertainment reporters are doing, but since you can make more money with a Masters, it just seems smarter to go back to school BUT if I would’ve took this blogging and my dream career more serious, I wouldn’t need the proper “documentation” and “credentials” to become a Publicist or entertainment host, BUT here I am, $90k in debt hoping I find something close to my dream job.

My advice to people seeking education, make sure you’re doing something for you instead of what your parents want you to do. If you’re almost done, FINISH. If you’re just starting out and you’re unsure, take a step back and reevaluate your situation. Questions you could consider is:

  • What am I good at?
  • What do I like to do?
  • Can I self-teach myself to enhance my skills? (YouTube, practice, etc)
  • Is the money good?
  • Do I have a lot of responsibilities now where I can make this change of move?
  • Do I need school to sharpen my skills and educate myself further?

Consider those things. If you want to be a doctor, you know damn well you need to go to school. If you love to do hair, maybe you should consider hair school instead of attending a university UNLESS you want to take up entrepreneurship. If you like working on cars, go to a trade school. There are ways to educate yourself in your dream career.

As far as me, I’m just blogging one day at a time and trying to build contacts.

What is your dream job?? Comment below and check out my grad pictures!! Shout out to Phillip Ellington to doing such a great job on my pics!

When in Doubt, Travel It Out: Cabo Edition

I just got back from my trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and let me tell you…I needed it! Between going to work, being in school and working an internship, I never have time to focus on me.

I was gone from Friday until Monday night (yesterday) and I didn’t even think about work or school. It’s like it never existed lol. I think this is part of that self care that everyone is talking about; take care of you!

Even though I didn’t sleep much and relax long, I had fun just kicking it; drinking, eating, and exploring, just living my best life!

I realized that taking vacations, short or long, far or close, are sometimes needed just to take your mind off of the stresses in your life and not being in close proximity of them. Sometimes taking a vacation can mean just sleeping your day away, stuffing your face and getting drunk and going back to sleep. Yes, you can do that at home BUUUUUT sometimes you don’t want to be in city limits of what you’re trying to temporarily get away from.

I’m already planning my next trip and it’ll simply be a celebration for me graduating and of course A TURN UP. But a short synopsis of my Cabo trip:

  • I went with a group of 50 or more people.
  • No special occasion, just a quick, semi-cheap trip to take
  • Day 1: meet & greet (it was about 60 of us) anddd a lot of drinking lol.
  • Day 2: ATV riding and Cabo nightlife. The Cabo club definitely love St.Louis folks!!

  • Day 3: Regrouping from the nightlife  lol and Boat Party And Chill day, OH and we saw a whale!!

  • Day 4: Leaving Cabo, blahhhhhhhhhhh!

I enjoyed myself but I would’ve loved to site see Cabo San Lucas a lil more but overall, it was a fun trip. Shout out to our travel agent Miki Jones—AMJ Getaways , for putting together a lit trip!
