Houston Artist, Mallory, Drops New Single “1Hunned”

A Houston RnB singer is creating her own opportunity and putting her music out for the world to hear. Artist Mallory started singing at a young age in church and also knew it was something she wanted to pursue. In the beginning, her family didn’t take her serious but they eventually realized that singing was going to be something she would pursue. She took a break from music when she decided to go to school and get a degree in Public Relations. Music has always been a passion for Mallory so she decided to give it another try. I was able to interview her about her background, music inspirations and more.

Danii: Did you get discouraged when your family didn’t take you seriously at first?

MalloryIn a way, yes; but back then I don’t think I cared too much. It started to affect me more later in life than it did originally.

Danii: Who are your music inspirations?

Mallory: Definitely Chris Brown! He is beyond talented. Beyonce has also shaped some of my style, but I listen to all kinds of music, so I’m also influenced by gospel, oldies, anything that I can learn from

Danii: Being a Houston native, do you feel like you have to be just as good as someone like Beyonce since that’s her hometown as well?

Mallory: I don’t feel I have to, but I am. The difference is the experience and the hours put in at the same point in time. If I continue to work hard and learn, my talent will grow and show just like hers has.

BW1A8536

Danii: Ideally, where would you like to be musically in 2 years?
Mallory: I want to be at the point at which I’m touring and have a decent audience; maybe not icon level, but definitely known nationally.
Danii: What are your favorite topics to sing about?
Mallory: That’s a hard one. *thinks about it* Man, I don’t know. I like to sing about whatever’s real. It may not be something going on right at that moment, but I just pull form experiences and desires. From there my favorite topic for the moment comes out. Love songs always leaves room for the most emotion, in my opinion.

Danii: Being a philanthropist and an advocate for mental health, did writing and singing help you get through those dark times?
Mallory: I wouldn’t say music helps me all the way through hard times because it can’t always give me better perspective and different ways to handle things, but music is definitely therapeutic for me. When I listen, it’s like having my closest friend there with me and when I sing it’s like getting everything off my chest.

Danii: What made you want to dedicate your birthday to The Premier Benefit & Birthday Bash?
Mallory: I always wanted to throw a charity birthday party. I wanted to celebrate while making it about more than me. Everything came together after going through severe depression. That became my fight, therefore something I could relate to and help others with. I just remember thinking, “if I feel this way, others do too.”

Danii: What message do you want to send in your music?
Mallory I just want people to know that we’re all human. Artists go through the same stuff listeners do: love, heartbreak, family issues, doubt, fear, depression, good times, bad times, etc.

Mallory’s new single 1hunned is out today, make sure you check it out on all streaming services!!

Toy Story 4 Review

If you’re a fan of the previous Toy Storys, Tom Hank, Tim Allen and childhood humor, then you’ll love this movie. Originally, I thought the movie was going to be trash because it was about a spork BUT I thought wrong.

Spoiler/Synopis:

The movie is about Woody’s new kid, Bonnie. She makes a spork in class on her first day of kindergarten and deems it as her favorite “toy.” Forky is his name and he doesn’t understand the concept of being a toy, but instead being trash, since that’s how he was created. In the midst of a road trip, him and Woody get lost from Bonnie and just when they find her, they go into an antique shop, where they find Bo Peep’s lamp. Woody thinks he can find her in there but instead he finds Gabby Gabby, the “villian” of the movie. She wants Woody’s speaker box because hers is old, and if hers is newer and fresh then a little girl would want to take her home. Woody wasn’t originally down with that swapping so he tried to escape from her and he does but Forky gets left behind. While Woody is trying to think of a plan to get back Forky, and keep up with where Bonnie is, he finds Bo Peep. She’s out exploring the world, being an independent woman and importantly not tied to a child. She helps Woody rescue Forky and also opens his eyes to the world and that there’s so much to see outside of a kid’s bedroom. The movie ends with Woody rescuing Forky and making it back to Bonnie in time before she heads home. Woody decides to stay with Bo and leave Buzz, Jessie and and the whole squad.

What The Movie Captured

For starters, Woody isn’t the head huncho in charge anymore. He had to take the back seat on being the sheriff in Bonnie’s room. Another doll is in charge and Woody also isn’t the favorite anymore, which is out of the ordinary. The movie also captured Woody really going out of his way to make Forky feel welcomed as a toy and explaining to him his worth as Bonnie’s favorite new toy.

Sidebar: Each movie has a villain or antagonizer, for example; Sid was crazy creeper kid in the original Toy Story, Stinky Pete was the sneaky one in Toy Story 2, Lotso in Toy 3 and now Gabby Gabby in this movie.

I like how the writers captured Bo being independent and not following behind Woody. Her character hit a full 360 from being quiet nurturing Bo, to being exploring-the-world-not-attached-to-any-child Bo Peep.

The comedy that the movie brought was awesome! Jordan Peele and Keegan Key playing Bunny and Ducky and doing their typical chemistry comedy. Keanu Reeves playing Duke Caboom. Forky just being new to life and not having a clue was adorably funny and Buzz Lightyear getting in touch with his inner thoughts but really it’s the programmed catch phrases on his body.

What I would’ve liked, especially with this being the so-called last movie, is for Woody to find Andy. Andy could have a family now, Woody could make an appearance in his life, creep him out a bit by talking, show him some love, then go back to exploring the world with Bo.

Overall, I loved the movies, even thought I didn’t think I would and it brought out my inner childhood.

“The Chi” Season 2 Finale and Jason Mitchell Allegations

Lena Waithe’s show The Chi is one of the best shows out right now. It tackles the everyday life of individuals, ages ranging from 12 years old, all the up to a character in his 40s. The show is set in Chicago, hence the title.

Recent Allegations

Recently, allegations have came out regarding one of the stars of the show Jason Mitchell, playing the character Brandon. You may know him from Straight Outta Compton, playing Eazy-E, SuperFly, Mudbound, Detroit and a few more movies. Jason has been accused by several cast mates, including his love interest co-star Tiffany Boone (playing Jerrika), of sexual harassment. It’s sad to be a victim harassment especially when you are disrespected by a co-star that you work very close with, intimately.

vibe.com

Another sad case is that Jason’s character, Brandon, is a good guy but Lena Waithe has decided to fire him from the show and he won’t return for season 3. Tiffany Boone has decided that she won’t return for season 3 neither, which is understandable. Tiffany had filed multiple complaints on set regarding Jason’s behavior starting from season one. Her claims were taken serious enough for everyone on set to be required to attend a sexual harassment training. After the training, the harassment calmed down but then it started back up and from then, Lena Waithe had to take matters in her own hands and fire Jason. The blame is not to be placed on Lena firing Jason later than expected but she says she does not own The Chi and that she’s the creator and sold the show of course. She was able to push her way in to hire a different show runner for season two and even put fire under HR to handle the situation immediately. They didn’t so she did. Since Jason and Tiffany are very important characters, it makes you wonder how the show is going to play out.

Season 3 Finale

In the finale, Brandon’s food truck gets searched by Chicago PD because his investor, Mr. Perry is part of the 63rd gang. A gun is found in the truck and Brandon has to explain where it came from in order to not get charged. Jerrika was not feeling him getting locked up and all in all, she wasn’t about that life because she is from a different background from Brandon. So BOOM, she gives him back the ring and moves out.

On the other end, Reggie gets killed!!! We all know who had something to do with it……Mr. Perry. Reggie is always being watched by Mr. Perry because he’s one of his lead guys.

gomovies.tube

In the last episode, Mr. Perry speaks with Reggie about offering Jake a legit job at Perry’s pizza and taking him under his wing. Perry wanted to take Jake under his wing because he knew that he was going to hire someone to kill Reggie. As much as I hated Reggie, he was slowly growing on me and he was even entertaining but he was making the “business” look bad, from beating up his workers in public, to being reckless in general. It was bound to happen. Jake was escorted out of his house because either A.)Reggie is killed and he needs to go to foster care or B.) He’s being arrested because he’s been selling smh. Then there’s Emmett, he’s a manager now, paying child support, getting his own spot and then some. BUT he got one of his baby mamas pregnant again. DAMMIT EMMETT. You were doing so well. He is also tryna get back good with Kiesha (Kevin’s sister), especially since he had Reggie take care of Kiesha’s older boyfriend who so happened to be her track coach. Ronnie finally confronts his dad about not being in his life, despite him leaving across the street from him all his life. This season ended good enough for you to want to watch season 3.

Assumptions for Season 3

I have so many questions and concerns like, what will the show be like for the next season? In episode 10 Brandon and Jerrika broke up and since Brandon is working with the Chicago PD to take down Mr. Perry in order to save himself, wouldn’t he need to make an appearance? I know that Alice (Detective Toussaint) said she would protect him so does that mean that he’s going into witness protection?? Will Kevin leave the public school and go to the private school? Will he stay so Papa won’t be alone at school since Jake “may” be locked up? Is Reggie REALLY dead? Will Jake get bailed out and adopted by Mr. Perry? Will Emmett get back with Kiesha and tell her about his findings on her older ex-boyfriend? Will Emmett get back with his baby mama in order to raise their next child? So many questions. What are your thoughts? Comment below and let me know.

Let’s Talk ‘Games People Play’

BET has done it again. They created another hit show that actually has a purpose. I loved Boomerang and can’t wait for a new season. Being Mary Jane was the shit too when it was aired regularly and Games People Play is another relatable series.

The Characters

The show stars Lauren London, who plays Vanessa; Sarunas Jackson, who plays her husband Marcus; Jackie Long, who plays Marcus’ best friend, Kareem; Parker McKenna Posey, who plays Laila, a side chick; Karen Obliom, who plays Nia, Vanessa best friend; and the Instagram funny influencer Kendall Kyndall, who plays Nia’s friend and messy coworker.

Background Information

What makes the show realistic is the fact that some professional sports players cheat, specifically in the show NBA players. In the show, Marcus cheats on a Vanessa and she catches them mid-act, and puts the paws on her. The girl somehow ends up dead and the show is at the point of figuring out if Marcus or even Vanessa had something to do with her death. Marcus cheats again, this time with Laila and she subliminally posts his body parts on Instagram. Vanessa finds out and decides to get her revenge. Nia is a celebrity blogger and her job wants her to write a story about Laila even though it may jeopardize her relationship with Vanessa. Marcus’ friend Kareem used to be as good as Marcus when it came to basketball but didn’t perfect his craft long enough so he’s kind of seen as Marcus’ sidekick or even his shadow.

No Double Standard

I like how the writers make the show realistic with Vanessa cheating back on Marcus. Yes, she cheats back y’all and AS SHE SHOULD. This man publicly cheated on her and he’s in the midst of getting back in her good grace and “saying” he’s not going to cheat again. Whether Vanessa believes it or not, she got her revenge back by cheating with an old friend. There is no double standard here. Nia, her friend, did not judge her. Marcus doesn’t know…yet but I hope he finds out so she can throw it in his face.

Career or Friendship

Choosing between work and friendship can be tough at time. Of course money pays the bills so you would want to pick your job but friends who support you, your decisions and lifestyle is something you don’t want to take for granted. Nia has to tread lightly when it comes to her career as a gossip writer and her friendship with Vanessa, who has a cheating husband and his business stays in the media.

Living in Friend’s Shadow

We’ve all been in a position where we’ve followed instead leaded, gone with the flow, let our friend take the shine and be great. In the last episode, they gives us some history on the start of Marcus and Kareem’s friendship. They were college roommates and both on the basketball team. Kareem was starting and Marcus was going to be riding the bench. As time went on, Kareem was slacking (for bets and money reasons) and that gave Marcus the time to shine. He went pro while Kareem…didn’t. Instead Kareem became Marcus’ alibi for everything when it came to Vanessa, plus some! In the second to last episode, Kareem realized that he was living in Marcus’ shadow and didn’t want to cover for him anymore. He noticed his worth and realized that even though he didn’t go pro, he can do other things with his talents. This is a good lesson of, if you and a friend are both experts in a craft one becomes better than the other, and makes it further in life, that doesn’t mean neither of you has to live in the other’s shadow. That just means that you can fully support one another while pursuing your path in another direction.

This show is a must-see. Not only is Lauren London in it, but Kendall Kyndall is hilarious, Karen Obliom is my fav, Sarunas is FINE and BET needs support to keep putting relevant content on their network.

Aladdin Review

If you’re a 90’s baby like myself, then you truly loved and enjoyed Disney movies, one in particular Aladdin. During that time, Princess Jasmine was the closest thing to a Disney brown skin princess besides Pocahontas, which was nice to see, me being a woman of color. This movie would make you feel like a kid again.

The intro starts off pretty similar to the original movie, except Disney added the genie, played by Will Smith, telling the story of Aladdin in the beginning. Genie also was telling the story to his two children which will be a significance at the end of the film. Of course the real life action movie couldn’t be an exact replicate of the original but that’s what made it so great! The fact that the story line was still in tact plus Disney showcased the Arabian culture with their clothing and dancing style which was good because it’s nice to see the lifestyle of other cultures.

Disney addressed women’s right in a sense. When Jafar wanted to take over and be the Sultan, Jasmine brought up the fact that she could be the Sultan. Of course the idea was shot down but towards the end of the film she got the respect she deserved as the female Sultan.

Will Smith is dope! Of course that is obvious but I had to say it. He didn’t try to be like Robin but instead, he acted like his normal goofy self. Will is usually a great big ball of in energy, especially when his character as Fresh Prince. He played a sentimental role and honestly, the film wouldn’t have been comedic or as relevant without him.

The actor and actress who played Aladdin and Jasmine perfected A Whole New World. Them singing the song brought back so many childhood memories. Besides that song, all the other songs were brought to life and were sang to perfection. Will Smith even threw his own twang and beat boxing to the songs.

Of course the creation of the movie wouldn’t be visually appeasing without CGI (computer-generated imagery), from the genie’s appearance, to Abu’s appearance, to EVERYTHING else in between. God bless CGI because it truly made the cartoon film come to life.

Image result for aladdin 2019 culture

As a whole, the film was dope! I do wish that the characters were more brown skin but they weren’t too far off. The music was on point and so was the culture depiction. I tried not to give too many spoilers so others can still go see the movie and still read this beforehand.

I encourage everyone to go see the movie, especially if you were a 90’s baby. I give them movie 5 stars!

[DELUX] Exclusive Interview with Tami Roman; Comedy & Clothing Deal and Recurring Roles

I was blessed with the opportunity to interview actress, producer & creator of Bonnet Chronicles Tami Roman. I interviewed her with DELUX Magazines and talked about her new business endeavors. Check out the interview HERE and a snippet of it below.

Most people may know Tami Roman from reality TV but she’s more than that! She’s a mother, producer, credible actress, and importantly a mother. Nowadays she is booked and busy with shoes deals, TV roles, executive producing her own mini series Bonnet Chronicles and recently she’s inked a comedy deal to take the comedy series on tour.

DELUX was granted the opportunity to interview her on her new business endeavors, one including a clothing deal that’s launching next year.

DELUX: Congratulations on  partnering win Jessica Rich on your own shoe collection. I know the collection dropped in March. What was the process like for you designing the shoe?

Tami Roman: Doing my shoe line with Jessica Rich was an amazing opportunity. She actually approached me at one of her shoe launch events and asked if I wanted to collab on something and I felt it was sent from the heavens above because I’ve always wanted to be in the shoe industry. It’s not an easy industry to penetrate, so for the past six years, I had been trying to figure out a way to infiltrate. When Jessica came up to me that night, I said absolutely! The process was really not as difficult as I thought it’ll be because I already had designs in my head and what I wanted to do and how I wanted to focus on a female driven line that showcased and highlighted certain aspects of the female body; and for me, that was accentuating the ankle. I love shoes that highlight a woman’s ankle, I feel like that is one of our sexiest parts of our body. So, I already had the designs and I sent my ideas, thoughts, and sketches over to her and we talked about materials, and what color palette I wanted to use. So it was relatively easy in that way and Jessica already has manufacturers on her alliance list; once we sent things overs, samples were made and the shoe was launched. The rest is history as they say. We did launch the icon boot and then I have another design coming out with her within the next month then my final design will come after that. I’m very excited about the market place to see what I have to offer and they’ve been very receptive so far.

“The opportunities are endless for Bonnet Chronicles.”

DELUX: It’s been about three years since you started the bonnet chronicles. Did you expect it to become as popular as it is now today especially being on Tidal, or did you have no idea it would have such a large reach when you first started it?

Check out her response and the rest of the interview HERE on DELUX
